Caroline Pearson is the Executive Director of the Peterson Health Technology Institute (PHTI), where she leads efforts to evaluate the clinical and economic impacts of digital health solutions. Caroline was instrumental in the design and launch of PHTI to accelerate the adoption of high-value technologies and raise the bar for industry innovation. Caroline also serves as the Executive Director of the Peterson Center on Healthcare, where she leads initiatives and grantmaking to fulfill the Center’s mission to create a high performing health system that delivers better care at lower cost. 

Caroline is a nationally-recognized healthcare expert, with a focus on healthcare technology, public and private insurance, state and federal health policy, prescription drugs, and aging issues.  

She was previously the Senior Vice President for Healthcare Strategy at NORC at the University of Chicago, a nonpartisan research organization. In this role she launched a new department of subject matter experts who deliver actionable research and analysis to health plans, providers, biotech companies, patient groups, and foundations. 

Prior to her work at NORC, Caroline was an executive at the consulting firm Avalere Health. As the Senior Vice President of Policy and Strategy, she oversaw teams focused on policy, strategic communications, and financial services.  

Caroline sits on the board of directors for a non-profit, provider-sponsored health plan in Ohio, and she is an elected member of the National Academy of Social Insurance. She is honored as a Crain’s New York Business Notable Leader in Health Care. Caroline previously served as a senior advisor to the BlueCross BlueShield Venture Fund, a fellow at a think tank focused on the future of aging, and a science and commercialization advisor to UChicago’s Polsky Center.

Meg is passionate about driving change with industry stakeholders to improve health care. Prior to joining the recently launched Peterson Health Technology Institute (PHTI), she was the Vice President of Digital Health Innovations & Strategy at the American Medical Association (AMA) where she developed and led a roadmap of national initiatives with collaborators. This included leading partnerships and innovation strategies, such as the inaugural AMA Healthier Nation Innovation Challenge, the establishment of the AMA Interaction Studio at MATTER, the development of Xcertia digital health guidelines, the creation of the AMA Physician Innovation Network that enables entrepreneurs and physicians to collaborate on the development of new solutions, the AMA Digital Health Implementation Playbook series, Digital Health national research, The AMA Telehealth Immersion Program, and a Return on Health value framework for digital health. She participates on the Advisory Board for MATTER, MassChallenge HealthTech, MedTech Color FDA Collaborative Community, Together.Health, Node Health Global Advisory Board, the Editorial Review Board of The Telehealth and Medicine Today Journal and was a past TEDMed Research Scholar. She was recently named a Rising Star: 104 Healthcare Leaders to Know by Beckers Hospital Review. Meg has published articles in Health Affairs, Harvard Business Review and Nature Digital Medicine and frequently participates at national conferences and events.

Steven D. Pearson, MD, MSc is a Senior Advisor at the Peterson Center on Healthcare.  He also continues to serve as an Advisor to the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER), which he founded and led for over 17 years. Under Dr. Pearson’s leadership, ICER became widely acknowledged as the leading independent health technology assessment group in the United States.  Dr. Pearson is also a member of the Board of Oxford Brain Diagnostics and an Advisor to CCX, a company providing digital tools to guide innovative market access agreements.

Dr. Pearson received his medical degree from the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) and completed internal medicine and research fellowship training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  He is a Lecturer in the Department of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Previously, he has served as a Visiting Scientist in the Department of Bioethics at the NIH, as Special Advisor on Technology and Coverage Policy at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and as the Vice Chair of the Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee (MedCAC).  His publications include over 200 peer-reviewed articles and commentaries on evidence, bioethics, and health care policy, and the book No Margin, No Mission: Health Care Organizations and the Quest for Ethical Excellence, published by Oxford University Press.

David is a healthcare commercial leader with over 20 years experience building and launching innovative products for companies in the digital health, health technology, biopharmaceuticals, and medical devices space. David has held numerous leadership roles across marketing, sales, product development, and strategy and is an expert in the organizational design of health technology companies.

Prior to PHTI, David held commercial leadership roles at two growth stage healthcare technology companies, TMRW Life Sciences and Butterfly Network. David roles included creating sales solutions, leading software development, and building organizational capabilities.

Before joining the Butterfly, David sat on the leadership team at Google Cloud Healthcare and Life Sciences. At Google, he led the design, execution, and commercialization of cloud-based solutions for healthcare providers, insurers, and life science organizations. Prior to Google, David held strategy and marketing roles at Pfizer.

David’s career in healthcare began at Avalere Health, where he was one of the founding members of the reimbursement and product commercialization practice. David holds a degree in history, cum laude, from Princeton University and an MBA in healthcare management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Prabhjot Singh, MD, PhD, is a physician who believes in a future of healthcare that is advanced, affordable, and available to all. He is a Senior Advisor for Strategic Initiatives at the Peterson Center on Healthcare and the Peterson Health Technology Institute. Most recently, he was Chief Medical Officer of CHW Cares (acquired by Oak Street Health, now part of CVS). He is also the author of Dying and Living in the Neighborhood: A Street Level View of America’s Healthcare Promise (Hopkins Press).

Prabhjot completed a BA in history and BS in biology at the University of Rochester. He earned his MD at Weill Cornell and his PhD in neural and genetic systems at Rockefeller University. He is board-certified in internal medicine and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in sustainable development at Columbia University’s Earth Institute. He was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation 40th Anniversary Young Leader, Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow, and a Presidential Leadership Scholar.

Melinda J.B. Buntin, PhD is a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Health Policy and Economics in the Department of Health Policy and Management in the Bloomberg School of Public Health and in the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University. She joins Hopkins from Vanderbilt University, where she was University Distinguished Professor in the Departments of Health Policy; Leadership, Policy and Organization; and Medicine, Health, & Society and where she held the Mike Curb Chair for Health Policy as Chair of the Department of Health Policy, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Buntin trained in health policy with a concentration in economics at Harvard University where she received her Ph.D. in 2000.

She started her professional career at RAND Health and transitioned into several health policy leadership roles during her 12 years in Washington, D.C. She was the Director of the Office of Economic Analysis, Evaluation and Modeling at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology and was Deputy Director of Health, Retirement and Long-Term Analysis at the Congressional Budget Office. In 2013, she became the founding Chair of the Department of Health Policy at Vanderbilt University, a multidisciplinary department within a medical school. During her tenure she grew the faculty from 9 to 22 and started a Health Policy track in the MPH program and a Ph.D. Program in Health Policy. Under her leadership and vision, it has become one of the leading departments of its kind.  At Hopkins, she is establishing a Center for Health Systems and Policy Modeling to help decisionmakers understand the implications of policies affecting the U.S. health care system.

Tom lnsel, M.D., a psychiatrist and neuroscientist, has been a national leader in mental health research, policy, and technology.  From 2002-2015, Dr. Insel served as Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). More recently, he led the Mental Health Team at Verily (2015-2017); co-founded Mindstrong Health (2017-2019), a start-up building tools for people with serious mental illness; and served as a special advisor to California Governor Gavin Newsom (2019), helping on behavioral health issues. In 2020, he co-founded Humanest Care, a therapeutic online community for recovery. In 2022, he joined Vanna Health as a co-founder and executive chair. Peter Long, PhD leads Long Health Strategies and is the former executive vice president for strategy and health solutions at Blue Shield of California, where he was responsible for creating and executing strategies to realize the organization’s vision for a healthcare system that is both family-worthy and sustainably affordable. His work at Blue Shield included collaborations with healthcare providers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to design innovative clinical and community programs, healthcare delivery, and payment systems. Long spearheaded the launch of Health Reimagined, an innovative plan transforming healthcare since 2020, and played a pivotal role in the California Advanced Primary Care Initiative, strengthening the primary care delivery system state-wide.

Previously, Long was president and chief executive officer of Blue Shield of California Foundation. His extensive career spans leadership roles at the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, The California Endowment, and service in South Africa during the country’s transition to democracy. Long has written extensively on a range of health policy topics, including co-authoring three National Academy of Medicine Leadership Consortium reports, including on digital health. He holds a Doctorate from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, where he serves an adjunct professor, as well as a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and bachelor’s degree from Harvard University. Long is a member of the board of directors for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and previously served on the boards of Integrated Healthcare Association, California Quality Collaborative, California Association of Health Plans, Manifest Medex, PriMed (Hill Physicians Managed Services Organization), and Primary Care Collaborative.

Margaret is a dynamic healthcare technology leader with extensive experience across startups, government, and corporate sectors. Most recently she served as Co-CTO of Devoted Health where she helped build the foundational technology that has supported Devoted’s exceptional growth and high member satisfaction.

Her previous roles include leading Engineering for the Broad Institute’s Data Science Platform, VP of Platforms at Runkeeper (acquired by ASICS), and co-founder/CTO of Pepperlane. Margaret also served as a technologist with the U.S. Digital Service under President Obama and a Steering Committee Member of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-funded Health Data Exploration Project.

In her current role, Margaret advises a range of high-profile healthcare startups, collaborating with leading venture capital firms. Her strategic guidance, on areas from team building to product execution to managing rapid scale, helps these companies navigate the complex intersection of technology and healthcare. Margaret holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a master’s from New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP).

Ateev Mehrotra, M.D., M.P.H. is the Walter H. Annenberg Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Services, Policy, and Practice at the Brown School of Public Health. Dr. Mehrotra’s research focuses on delivery innovations and their impact on access, quality, and spending.  

Dr. Mehrotra has led seminal work evaluating the impact of telemedicine on costs and quality, how the rise of urgent care has reshaped the health care landscape, and other critical issues around consumerism, price transparency and benefit design. He has published over three hundred peer reviewed papers and is a prominent voice in the field of health services and health policy. 

He previously served as professor of health care policy at Harvard Medical School, while also working as a hospitalist at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. 

Dr. Mehrotra received a B.S. from MIT, an M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco, and completed his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Boston. He also holds an MPH from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Science in epidemiology from Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Andy Miller is Senior Vice President of AARP Innovation Labs. With a mission to drive innovation and make aging easier in the $45 trillion global AgeTech economy, Andy leads the AgeTech Collaborative from AARP, which is the largest ecosystem in the world with more than 550 companies focused on building solutions at the intersection of longevity and technology.

Prior to joining AARP, he was the Chief Innovation Architect at Constant Contact, where he built out the corporate innovation function and the Small Business Innovation Loft. Andy was the founder and CEO at CardStar (acquired by Constant Contact), Lumifi, Quece (acquired by Intellectual Ventures), and RetirementSuite.com. In addition, he has held various positions at PFPC, T. Rowe Price, Putnam Investments and Bank of America.

Andy holds a BA in Economics from SUNY Oswego and a MS in Entrepreneurial Studies from Suffolk University and executive education certificates from Babson College and Georgetown University. Andy is also actively engaged in the startup ecosystem as an investor and mentor.

Anaeze C. Offodile II, MD, MPH  is the Executive Vice-President and Chief Strategy Officer of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). In this capacity, he is leading strategy efforts and care transformation initiatives at MSK by continuing to develop the core infrastructure, management systems, and processes for enterprise strategy and business development.

He is a graduate of Kent State University, Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed surgical training at Brigham & Women’s Hospital (General Surgery), Lahey Clinic (Plastic Surgery) and MD Anderson Cancer Center (Microvascular fellowship). He serves on the editorial board of Annals of Surgery, is the recipient of competitive extramural funding (>$5 million) from the NIH, National Academy of Medicine,and Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and has published in journals such as Journal of Clinical Oncology, Nature Medicine, Lancet, Annals of Surgery, JAMA Network Open, JAMA Surgery, JAMA Health Forum, and Health Affairs. He was the 2019-2021 Gilbert Omenn Fellow at the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) and previously a strategic advisor to the World Economic Forum and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI).

William Shrank, MD serves as Venture Partner at Andreessen Horowitz. Previously, Dr. Shrank served as Chief Medical Officer for Humana, where he implemented Humana’s integrated care delivery strategy. Previously Dr. Shrank was the Chief Medical Officer, Insurance Services Division, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he was responsible for clinical operations, policy and quality for approximately 3.5 million members in Medicare, Medicaid, behavioral health, Managed Long Term Social Supports and commercial lines of business. He also developed and evaluated population health programs. Prior to that, Dr. Shrank served as Senior Vice President, Chief Scientific Officer, and Chief Medical Officer of Provider Innovation at CVS Health.

From 2011-2013, Dr. Shrank was the Director of the Research and Rapid-Cycle Evaluation Group at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation at CMS, where he led the evaluation of payment and health system delivery reform programs and developed the rapid-cycle strategy to promote continuous quality improvement. Dr. Shrank began his career as a practicing physician with Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and was an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Shrank received his M.D. from Cornell University Medical College and holds a Master of Science degree in Health Services from the University of California and a bachelor’s degree from Brown University.

Ariel Dora Stern, PhD is the Poronui Associate Professor of Business Administration in the Technology and Operations Management Unit at Harvard Business School and a Faculty Member of the Harvard-MIT Center for Regulatory Science. Ariel’s research focuses on technology management and innovation in health care, using methods from econometrics and data science to curate and analyze novel datasets. From 2020-2021 Ariel served as the Director for International Health Care Economics at the Health Innovation Hub, an independent think tank of the German Federal Ministry of Health focused on digital transformation projects. She is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Society for Digital Medicine and has advised numerous health care startups. In 2024, is slated to assume the chair for Digital Health, Economics and Policy at the Hasso Plattner Institute, where she has been named an Alexander von Humboldt Professor.
