The Peterson Health Technology Institute (PHTI) provides independent evaluations of innovative healthcare technologies to improve health and lower costs. Through its rigorous, evidence-based research, PHTI analyzes the clinical benefits and economic impact of digital health solutions, as well as their effects on health equity, privacy, and security. These evaluations inform decisions for providers, patients, payers, and investors, accelerating the adoption of high-value technology in healthcare. PHTI was founded in 2023 by the Peterson Center on Healthcare.
About the Opportunity
PHTI is seeking a Senior Manager, Assessment to support its initiative focused on increasing the utilization of high-value digital health solutions. The Senior Manager will be responsible for supporting and executing the clinical and economic evaluation for PHTI assessment. This includes overseeing health technology assessment partners, working closely with clinical advisors, analyzing and interpreting clinical evidence, and writing and producing public-facing reports. This position will report to the Principal, Assessment and support the implementation of PHTI’s value assessment framework. The Senior Manager will ensure the assessments follow the published framework and will help update the framework over time with input from assessment experts and other stakeholders.
More specifically, the responsibilities include:
Drive the Clinical Assessment Process
- Manage engagement with external assessment partners to execute the clinical effectiveness review.
- Work closely with assessment partners to scope and finalize literature search criteria, develop research protocols and search strategies for the systematic literature review.
- Oversee the systematic literature review and data extraction process conducted by the assessment partners.
- Interpret clinical evidence, analyze findings, develop narratives, and contribute to drafting the clinical section of PHTI’s reports.
- Review and validate clinical findings and oversee integration with the full report.
- Partner with other PHTI functions and external partners to continually improve processes with the goal of enhancing speed, communication, and quality.
- Ensure reports are executed to high standards of rigor and quality in accordance with the ICER-PHTI Assessment Framework.
- Support PHTI’s engagement with clinical advisor experts.
- Engage with PHTI clinical advisors to identify and prioritize outcomes measures used in the clinical evaluation.
- Seek input from the clinical advisors on report findings and clinical analysis.
Economic and Budget Impact Modeling
- Contribute to the creation of the economic section of the report by conducting background research on the economic burden of disease and analyzing company-specific economic claims.
- Guide and support the creation of a budget impact model and help validate key assumptions.
- Work closely with our economic assessment partners to evolve the economic section of PHTI’s reports.
Thought Leadership and Advocacy
- Assist in the creation of thought leadership pieces, white papers, and other collateral that advance PHTI’s mission with key stakeholders.
- Partner across the PHTI team to amplify PHTI’s findings through a diverse set of channels and engagement.
Administration, Culture, and Management Responsibilities
- Provide project management and oversight of external vendor/stakeholders.
- Possess a comprehensive and nuanced understanding of PHTI’s assessment function and have the capacity to describe it clearly, both internally and externally.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and vigilance regarding conflicts of interest at all times.
About the Successful Candidate
The successful candidate will be an accomplished healthcare professional, committed to transforming the U.S. healthcare system, with experience in or working with one or more major segments of the healthcare system (payers, providers, pharmaceuticals, health technology). The ideal candidate should be strategic, a strong collaborator, and able to bring the skills to build and enhance the assessment function within PHTI.
Professional Experience
- An advanced degree with a minimum of 7+ years of direct healthcare work experience.
- Strong technical expertise in digital health solutions, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) and/or related assessment methods.
- Related experience in healthcare economics, evaluation, management consulting, and/or project management for large-scale healthcare research initiatives.
- Demonstrated skills in quantitative and qualitative analysis methods.
- Project management experience and ability to plan and think strategically, set realistic goals and objectives, balance multiple priorities, manage project details and accommodate changes.
- Commitment to ensuring accuracy and high quality of research, findings and work products.
- Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate well with colleagues and leadership.
- A nimble learner who is self-directed, intellectually curious, adaptable and enjoys facing new situations and the challenge of ambiguity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- In order to build productive relationships across the organization and to ensure effective collaboration, this role requires in-person presence in accordance with the organization’s hybrid schedule of working in the office three days per week (Monday/Tuesday/Thursday).
Salary and Benefits
We anticipate that the starting base salary range for this position will be $115,000 to $120,000, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, we offer a generous benefits package designed to support employee health and well-being, including comprehensive health insurance, a substantial 401k match, paid time off, a hybrid work schedule and other flexible work policies.
